Jewish Control
For centuries, antisemitic conspiracy claims have portrayed Jews as secretly controlling governments, financial institutions, media organizations or world events. The charge does not describe ordinary political influence. It describes an unseen, illegitimate power that supposedly operates behind public life.
That idea is one of the most durable antisemitic tropes in European and later global propaganda. It recasts Jewish existence itself as a hidden command structure. When an image shows a Star of David-marked force crushing ordinary people, or a network diagram marked with Jewish symbols and secret agencies, it is working inside that tradition — whether or not the person sharing it names the tradition out loud.
Money
A related stereotype links Jews to greed, finance and covert economic control. Medieval libels, nineteenth-century pamphlets and twentieth-century propaganda all treated money as the instrument through which Jews were said to dominate others.
The phrase “Follow the money,” in isolation, can be ordinary political speech. Placed directly above a graphic of a Star of David-marked hand crushing people, it stops being ordinary. It tells the viewer where the supposed power lives, and who is said to hold it. That is why Cusack’s three-word caption in 2019 became central to the controversy: it attached money to Jewish symbolism and domination in a single post.
Secret Networks
Antisemitic conspiracy propaganda frequently portrays Jewish people or institutions as parts of hidden interconnected networks operating behind public events. Faces, family ties, professional associations and intelligence agencies are arranged as if they were a map of secret command.
The 2025 graphic Cusack shared used that visual grammar: portraits, relationships, Stars of David, Mossad labels and implied hidden influence. A conspiracy board is not merely a collage of facts. It is an argument that the connections themselves are the story — and that the public cannot see the real structure without the diagram.
Dual Loyalty and Secret Influence
Another long-running charge portrays Jewish officials or citizens as secretly serving Jewish or Israeli interests rather than their own countries. Dual-loyalty accusations treat Jewish identity as evidence of hidden allegiance.
When a graphic marks a Jewish former U.S. secretary of state with a Star of David and then threads him, through family and professional ties, into a purported Mossad operation, it is not simply “criticism of a nation-state.” It is a claim that Jewish identity explains secret power. That is the dual-loyalty charge in visual form.
Symbols
The Star of David is a Jewish religious and communal symbol. It appears on synagogues, gravestones, ritual objects and the flag of Israel. Placing it on an image of oppression, hidden control or conspiracy changes the message. The symbol stops being a marker of a people or a state and becomes a brand for domination.
That is why the 2019 hand and the 2025 network diagram were read as antisemitic even by people who accept harsh criticism of Israeli policy. The images did not argue a policy. They stamped Jewish identity onto a story about who secretly rules.
